1,851km Zwift record rider says he lost 5% of his body weight and damaged his organs
Dr Alex Stavrinides, an ultra-cyclist and Audax enthusiast, decided to celebrate his 40th birthday in a unique way. While most people opt for trips or parties, Stavrinides took on a 1,851km ride on Zwift, setting a new record for the platform by beating Jasmijn Muller’s previous record of 1,828km set in 2017. Stavrinides rode for 60hrs 48min 49sec, burning through 25,000 kcals and climbing 2,768m. He used Zwift’s pancake-like Tempus Fugit course in Watopia, and despite developing some digestive issues during the attempt, he took strategic naps and was joined by friends and co-workers to help the ride go smoothly. Stavrinides sustained mild organ damage and lost 5% of his body mass. “RPE [rate of perceived exertion] was in the factors of 10s”, he wrote on his Test Subject 1 blog. “I had buried myself deeper than I thought I would or could.”
