Boots Ennis Hopes Spence-Crawford Is “One-sided Fight,” So He Can Be Next – SolSportHQ
By Craig Daly: Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis says he’s hoping the Errol Spence – Terence Crawford fight on July 29th turns out to be a “one-sided” contest, where the loser won’t want a rematch and will move on to face him.
It’s not beyond the realm of possibilities that the Spence vs. Crawford undisputed welterweight bout this month is a blow-out with it turning out to be an uncompetitive fight.
It could be a career move for either of these 147-lb champions to pursue a rematch if they get trounced on July 29th in their headliner on Showtime PPV at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. That’s precisely what Boots Ennis is hoping.
If Crawford and Spence don’t take a rematch, the best money fight available is probably Boots Ennis. There’s literally no one else for them to face that can bring in the same revenue.
Keith Thurman is too old, inactive, and has wrecked his career by not fighting. Fighting Tim Tszyu at 154 is a pointless match-up because casual boxing fans have never heard of him in the U.S., and he lacks the charisma to sell a fight on PPV.
154 = an empty wasteland
With that said, the Spence-Crawford winner could see the risk-reward of fighting IBF interim welterweight champion ‘Boots’ Ennis as being too poor for them to go in this direction and potentially ending up in the same boat as Roiman Villa.
Spence & Crawford have talked about moving up to 154 after their fight or fights, but there’s nothing for either of them in that weight class now that Jermell Charlo has departed. What does being at 154 give Crawford and Spence besides a sanctuary to hide from Boots Ennis?

Whether they waant to admit it or not, Spence and Crawford are older fighters who rarely fight and are just looking to feather their nests with retirement money to ensure they live in luxury for the remainder of their lives.
“Hopefully, we get these top guys. Bud, Spence, Keith Thurman, or Stanionis,” said Jaron Ennis at the post-fight press conference after beating Roiman Villa.
“Hopefully, it’s a one-sided fight, and nobody gets a rematch and will be next,” said Boots about the Errol Spence vs. Terence Crawford fight.
Boots is going to need to focus on fighting as often as possible against the best guy each time out if he wants to become a star because it’s not realistic that he’s going to get Spence, Crawford, Stanionis, or Thurman to agree to fight him.
