Carlos Alcaraz eliminates Muller and aims to reach Wimbledon last 16 without a break

Carlos Alcaraz‘s numbers on grass continue to grow: 11 matches played and nine victories. The last of them came on the hot fifth day of Wimbledon against Alexandre Muller, 6-4, 7-6(2) and 6-3, in 2 hours and 33 minutes.

The top seed will play tomorrow, without a break, against the winner of the match between Nicolas Jarry and Jason Kubler. Alcaraz’s best result in the tournament was last year’s round of 16.

Alcaraz, on his return to the centre court of the All England Club 369 days later, saw how the fans filled the court to pay homage to him. The fact is that he has just won his first title on green at Queen’s, which has allowed him to string together seven victories in an almost unknown habitat for him.

Andy Murray was the last professional to be able to string together trophies in the two most important events of the grass tour of England.

The Spaniard had the first set ball in the opening game. It escaped him and Muller stood up to him until the seventh round. In the eighth, the Spaniard said enough.

Until then, the Frenchman’s tactic of playing all or nothing had worked and his imposing opponent could not find enough fluidity with his forehand.

Alcaraz had the first three set points in the ninth game. They slipped away because of his opponent’s free points on serve. It was in the tenth game when he took the lead.

Muller, 84th in the world, was not going to give up and forced sudden death. He even had the chance to make it 5-3 on his serve. The tie break is usually won by the best and the player from El Palmar is one of them.

“Vamos, vamos,” he shouted as he looked at his fans, all standing next to the Royal Box. Martina Navratilova, with the most crowns in the tournament (9), was nodding her head in agreement. The Spaniard even served at 217 kilometres per hour, still far from his record of 227 at the Mutua Madrid Open last year.
