Everton are in advanced talks to sign Ashley Young on a one-year deal| SolSportHQ
Everton are poised to make 38-year-old Ashley Young their first signing of the summer on a one year contract this week.
Talks are at an advanced stage and a medical is scheduled for this week for the former Aston Villa and Manchester United utility player.
Everton travelled to Switzerland for pre-season training on Monday with defenders Mason Holgate and Vitaliy Mykolenko staying behind for treatment on injuries.
The former England right-back was released by Aston Villa following the expiration of his contract, after he joined the midlands club back in 2021 on a free transfer.
Mail Sport reported at the time he had turned down several approaches from other Premier League clubs before opting for a return to Villa Park, having previously played for the side between 2007 and 2011.

And it appears he has now turned down interest from other Premier League clubs, including Luton who had been speaking to the free agent – and instead looks set to join the Toffees.
Having won the Premier League with Manchester United in 2013 and the Serie A with Inter Milan in 2021, Young brings a lot of experience which will make him a valuable asset to Sean Dyche.
Everton have narrowly avoided relegation two seasons in a row, this time dodging the drop on the final game of the season, ensuring their survival at much relief to the Goodison faithful.
The club has also seen several young stars depart in recent weeks, including Tom Davies and promising striker Ellis Simms, but they are yet to make any new signings.
Andros Townsend is another player who has left the club after his contract at Everton expired in June.
The 31-year-old winger is currently training with Burnley and is a free agent but missed last season because of a knee injury.
It comes as the Blues are in a tricky financial situation amid their new stadium build on the Liverpool waterfront.
But Everton could see a new injection of cash come pretty soon amid their ongoing takeover which could help improve Dyche’s transfer budget this summer.
The Toffees will need some reinforcements in defence this year, after centre-back Yerry Mina also left the club in June, while right-back, Seamus Coleman, suffered a season-ending knee injury late on in their 2-2 draw against Leicester.
