Martin Odegaard’s worrying limp, Kai Havertz reception – Arsenal moments missed vs Nurnberg
football.london takes a look back at some of the moments you may have missed from the Gunners’ preseason friendly clash with FC Nurnberg
Balogun shows fans some love
This game marked the first time in nearly a year that we saw Folarin Balogun in an Arsenal shirt. The American forward is subject to plenty of speculation around his future, and although football.london understands that Arsenal are open to offers for him it seems that the Gunners fans want him to stay.
As Balogun went to warm up on the touchline during the first half, the section of the fanbase closest to him erupted in raucous calls of his name. The 22-year-old responded with a swift thumbs up that only served to amplify the love.
Havertz reception
Given his previous club, it wouldn’t be too unfair for some Arsenal fans to take a little while to warm to Kai Havertz. Instead it seems that they are already fully head over heels for the former Chelsea man.
He was one of six half time subs as Gabriel Jesus, Jorginho, Kieran Tierney, Cedric and Karl Hein all came on. The cheer for the German from the largely Arsenal supporting Max-Morlock Stadion was by far the loudest.
Odegaard’s worrying limp
Arsenal were handed several injury blows before kick off with Gabriel Martinelli, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Rob Holding and Marquinhos all missing out. A further one still was to come as Martin Odegaard was ruled out after picking up a knock in the warm up.
The Norwegian took a while to emerge from the tunnel and when he did it was with a limp that would have concerned Mikel Arteta. The fact that he was still walking uneasily when he came back out to watch the second half will have been even more worrying.
