Stella: McLaren structure “completely different” from confusing 2015 F1 era
McLaren has revealed a new technical structure, featuring three technical directors working in conjunction with one another. The move comes after a thorough review commissioned by CEO Zak Brown and conducted by Andrea Stella over the winter break, which led to James Key’s departure from his role as technical director with overall responsibility for the car. The new structure will see Peter Prodromou responsible for aerodynamics, while former Ferrari man Davide Sanchez will oversee car concept and performance, and Neil Houldey will take charge of engineering and design. Stella highlighted that the new structure should not be compared with McLaren’s previous three-person set-up, which struggled with undefined job roles and unclear separation of competencies. He stressed that the new model was designed to create a performance-led organisation and institute clear areas of responsibility. He also noted that the people involved will be reporting to a team principal with a strong technical background, and who is well placed to guide them.
