Tottenham’s biggest recent transfer flops| SolSportHQ
In a recent statement, Daniel Levy boasted about Tottenham’s supposed investment of over £500million in new players since 2019. However, the truth is that this money has been spent recklessly and without much thought, resulting in some disastrous signings that are representative of the club’s confused strategy.
One such example is Tanguy Ndombele, who was signed as a club-record transfer just weeks after Tottenham’s Champions League final appearance. Despite a huge price tag of £54m, he has made minimal impact and was shipped out on loan for the last two seasons. Richarlison was also signed for a whopping £52m to compete with the likes of Kane, Son, and Kulusevski in the front three, but has made only nine Premier League starts and has scored just two Champions League goals.
Other notable examples of poor signings include Pedro Porro, who was brought in seemingly just to appease former manager Antonio Conte, Sergio Reguilon, who struggled to make an impact under Jose Mourinho and is now on loan at Atletico Madrid with a plummeting value, and Bryan Gil, who was hailed as a highly-rated winger but is now back at Sevilla on loan with Erik Lamela, after a disastrous £21m deal.
Overall, it seems that Tottenham’s muddled thinking and reckless spending have resulted in a string of failed acquisitions that have done little to improve the club’s fortunes.
