Ange Postecoglou has already signalled his intent for Tottenham’s final pre-season friendly of the summer against Barcelona
Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham will complete their pre-season preparations on Tuesday evening with a showdown against Barcelona. Taking part in the Joan Gamper Trophy match against the Spanish giants at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, the Spurs head coach will be hoping to round off their friendly matches with another impressive win.
“We’ve got training tomorrow (Monday), we’ll probably change the whole team for Tuesday night,” said Postecoglou in an interview with SPURSPLAY after the 5-1 win. “It will be a good hit-out for us, a good challenge [as] playing Barcelona away is always a tough challenge.
“It’s a great opportunity for us again to try and implement and a lot of the guys who will play on Tuesday night have had strong pre-seasons, so I’m looking forward to having them out there. Then we prepare for Sunday. We’ll get back from Barcelona and we have a good sort of lead into Sunday’s game.
“Brentford away will be a tough encounter and, apart from people asking me about Harry Kane on a daily basis, that will be my week, mate.”
So what exactly could the Tottenham XI look like against Xavi’s Barcelona team? football.london takes a look below.
Despite Postecoglou admitting that he “will probably change the whole team” against Barcelona, Guglielmo Vicario could maybe be given another opportunity in goal. Having very little to do against Shakhtar but ready when called upon with the visitors forcing him into action a couple of times late on, another 90 minutes between the sticks would benefit the new signing as he gets ready for the new season.
Pedro Porro looks a certainty to come in at right-back after Emerson Royal started against Shakhtar, with Sergio Reguilon very likely to take Destiny Udogie’s place on the left. At centre-back, the Barcelona friendly will allow Eric Dier the opportunity to get a good amount of minutes under his belt after having to work his way back to fitness following groin surgery in May.
It remains to be seen who will partner the England international, though. As Davinson Sanchez was on the bench against Shakhtar as Japhet Tanganga missed out on the squad completely, it could be the Colombian who gets the nod.
Possible Tottenham XI vs Barcelona: Vicario; Porro, Sanchez, Dier, Reguilon; Bissouma, Skipp, Lo Celso; Solomon, Richarlison, Perisic
