Caroline Wozniacki showed no rust in her return to the tennis court, as the 33-year-old cruised to a first round victory at the Canadian Open on Tuesday.
The match was her first in more than three years after stepping back from the sport to start a family.
After beating Australian qualifier Kimberly Birrell 6-2 6-2, Wozniacki shared just how happy she was with her performance on social media.
“3 years, 8 Months, 2 kids later! We are back baby!! Feels good to get the W today,” Wozniacki wrote alongside a photo of herself on the court.
Plenty of support of Wozniacki
Wozniacki, who will take on Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in the next round on Wednesday, received plenty of love on her post.
Her husband, David Lee, showed his delight by writing: “So proud of you!!!”
“Love it,” wrote Serena Williams, while Lindsey Vonn responded with five fire emojis.
Wozniacki announced her return to tennis in an interview with Vogue back in June.
“I’ve talked with a lot of women who gave up on their own dreams because they wanted to be with their families, but somewhere deep down they have this yearning to do something they’re passionate about. I want to show those women that maybe there’s a way,” she told Vogue.
“It’s certainly not easy to find the right balance – and I’m so lucky to have a supportive husband and supportive parents, and the help of a nanny – but I think it’s possible. I want to prove that to myself and to those women.
“You can have both: You can be thrilled with your family and with everything at home and still have a career – and be great at it.”
Wozniacki, who revealed she was retiring on Instagram back in December 2019, shares son James, 9 months, and daughter Olivia, 2, with Lee.
