Danielle Collins launches foul-mouthed tirade at Maria Sakkari during tennis match

Danielle Collins is an American tennis player on the rise, yet her behavior in a match at the Canadian Open has been roundly criticized.
Collins was midway through a clash with World No.8 Maria Sakkari in Canada when the former launched into a foul-mouthed tirade, largely aimed at her opponent.
Sakkari was actually the instigator of the entire situation, firing a ball in anger towards the crowd as she slipped to 6-4, 2-1 down in the match.
Whilst this was clearly a moment of adrenaline-inspired madness, Sakkari was quick to put her hand up in apology.
However, Collins took it upon herself to plunge herself into the chaos, immediately turning to the chair umpire and demanding action be taken.
“Did you see what happened?” she asked.
Sakkari, though, was quick to fight her corner and responded to her opponent directly.
“It didn’t even hit anyone,” she replied.
This sent Collins into a rage, firing two ill-fated barbs at her opponent.
“Shut your mouth, shut your mouth,” Collins fired back.
Collins eventually won
Whilst this was an unsavory moment in what was a high-quality tennis match, the underdog actually emerged as the winner, keeping Sakkari behind her at all times with strong fore-hand play and dominance in serve.
She won by a score of 6-4, 6-2 and will now move into the Round of 16 in the Canadian Open, although it’s likely that both players will be reprimanded for their behavior during Thursday’s battle.
The players did eventually cool off and exchanged a handshake at the end of the fixture, although it’s unlikely that this will be the last we hear of such an incident, especially when fan safety was put at such a grave risk by the actions of Sakkari.
