At 36 years of age, and having played a marathon third round match against compatriot Laslo Djere, Novak Djokovic, is now enjoying the rest that the US Open is giving him.

After defeating Taylor Fritz on Tuesday to qualify for the semi-finals for the 13th time, the 23-time major champion will now have two days off before Friday’s match with Ben Shelton.

The age difference between the two, almost 20 years, should be a handicap for Djokovic, but that might not actually be the case.

That’s because he has been taking the utmost care of his physique in order to arrive at the final stretch of the Grand Slam in top form.

“I didn’t know we had two days off, I just found out,” Shelton said after advancing to the semi-finals.

“At the beginning of tournaments you don’t want to be off for two days, but at this stage of the competition it’s good for us”.

Djokovic, unlike the rest of the competitors who stay in Manhattan, sleeps at the home of a friend in New Jersey.

The 161,874-square-meter residence is valued at 40 million dollars and has no shortage of tennis courts.

It is located 38 kilometers from the Flushing Meadows courts and, for Djokovic, it is the perfect place to disconnect and step away from things during his off days, something that he can’t do while in New York.
