Eddie Hearn Says Tyson Fury “fragile,” Could Retire After Ngannou Performance – SolSportHQ

By Jake Tiernan: Eddie Hearn says Tyson Fury was exposed as being “fragile” in his loss to Francis Ngannou last weekend, and he wouldn’t be surprised if he retires from the game rather than push on until the bitter end.
Eddie is more confident than ever that the former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will easily handle Fury when the two eventually meet, especially after the performance he witnessed against boxing novice Ngannou in Riyadh, Saudia Arabia, last weekend.
Hearn states that it was already established that Fury was fragile mentally before last Saturday night, with the way that he banned a media outlet over criticism about him. That action by the 35-year-old WBC heavyweight champion Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) that he can’t take criticism.
Hearn is hoping to put a fight together between Joshua (26-3, 23 KOs) and Ngannou next, which would be a huge one, giving AJ the chance to show fans the difference in his talent compared to Fury.
If Joshua crushes Ngannou, it would expose Fury as being a just a hype job, who has been living off his wins over a shopworn 39-year-old Wladimir Klitschko and undersized 220 lb Deontay Wilder. Other than those two fighters, Fury has been beating ham & eggers his entire career, and no one really solid.
Hearn didn’t give any predictions on how he feels Fury will perform against IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in February, if the fight takes place, but it wouldn’t be a shock if he predicts a loss for Tyson.
Fury not the fighter fans thought
“We were definitely colder on Friday than we are now,” said Eddie Hearn to iFL TV, reacting to being told that Team Fury is saying that Anthony Joshua is ‘out in the cold.’ “We’re much warmer now; we’re quite toasty after that performance [from Fury against Francis Ngannou] because people realize that AJ is a force in the heavyweight division.
It might not matter whether Joshua is being frozen out by Team Fury because if he gets beaten by Oleksandr Usyk in February and then in a rematch, he’ll likely hang them up.
What we saw in the Ngannou fight is that Fury is shot to pieces, old and past it. If you’ve been following Fury closely, you’d know that he was never the great fighter that boxing fans thought he was.
The Gypsy King Fury was just a big lug that dodged dangerous opposition, was saved twice by referees in his fights with Deontay Wilder, and never pulled the trigger on a clash against Joshua.
Basically, Fury was just a guy carefully maneuvered by his promoters, a manufactured fighter who was never the best, and the casuals/brainless bought into it, thinking he was the real thing.
“Fury has wanted to freeze out AJ for a long time, and that’s been the problem with making the fight. You see that with the comments. You only have to see what they say and their body language to know that they really don’t want to give AJ the fight.
“It’s funny to them that they’re not fighting, and to us, it’s like, they’re delighted that we’re out in the cold. But let’s be honest, after Saturday night, we really ain’t out in the cold,” said Hearn.
Will Fury retire after losing to Usyk?
“For one, we beat Tyson Fury every day of the week, and two, we may end up getting the Ngannou fight, and AJ will knock him out within six rounds,” said Hearn. “So after Saturday, I’m pumped about the career of Anthony Joshua because I believe he’s going to come back, and his best chapter is yet to be written.
“I believe he’s going to be world heavyweight champion, I believe he’s going to beat Tyson Fury, I believe he can beat Deontay Wilder, and I know he can beat Francis Ngannou. So, the fury is massive for Anthony Joshua,” said Hearn.
It’s clear that Fury is an old paper champion and always was. We already saw that Fury is just a washed-up old guy against Ngannou, so he’s not the guy that Hearn should be wasting time talking about.
Yeah, Fury is useful for Joshua to fight for money purposes, but other than that, he’s not the guy that Hearn should be targeting. Joshua needs to avenge his loss to Usyk, and he’s pretty old too.
Usyk’s last performance against Daniel Dubois was dreadful, going down from a body shot in the fifth and saying he was hit with a low blow. Even if you ignore that bit, Usyk looked poor and nothing like some of the younger heavyweights in the division.
“These guys [Team Fury], they don’t like any criticism,” said Hearn. “For Tyson Fury to get paid all that money and not do the press conference after the Ngannou fight. I’ve had situations with AJ where, after the Andy Ruiz fight, the doctor said, ‘Don’t do the presser.’ He goes and does it.
“After the Usyk second fight, you know how mentally where he was at. He broke down in tears at the presser. He still went. He never ducked an interview; he never ducked a situation.
“Now, you’ll see Tyson Fury disappear because he doesn’t want the criticism. He bans anyone that wants to question him. So now we know he’s fragile, but now we know he’s fragile in the ring.
“Listen, I wouldn’t be surprised if he [Fury] retired, honestly. I’ve heard Spencer Oliver say that he’s heard rumblings of it. I wouldn’t even be surprised.
“The hope in me says, ‘Yes,’ but you just never know what this guy is going to do, honestly,” said Hearn when asked if he believes a fight between Joshua and Fury will take place in the next twelve months. “Nothing he does would surprise me.
“Listen, respect to John Fury, he’s hilarious. Shane Fury, I met him the other night, and he seems like a nice guy. What they’ve done is incredible. They do talk s**t at times, and so do I. If they want to call me out on that, don’t expect me not to call you out on it.
“When you box like you did last Saturday, and you tell everyone that you’re the second coming of Muhammad Ali, and you’ve gone over there for a cash grab, and you got beat by a bloke [Ngannou] that’s never had a professional fight before. Do you think that comes without criticism? You got to be bigger than that.
“So, he’ll [Fury] will be better for the Usyk fight, I’m sure, but who knows whether it’ll happen?” said Hearn.
