Here are our Tottenham Hotspur player ratings after their 5-1 friendly victory against Shakhtar Donetsk on Sunday afternoon
Guglielmo Vicario
Made one low block but couldn’t do much about Kelsy’s point blank header before the break. Made a terrific flying reaction save from Newerton in the second half before diving to make a brave stop soon after. 7
Emerson Royal
Saw an early follow-up to Kane’s saved shot deflected over before having a low shot saved later in the half. Played a no-look pass that didn’t work in the visitors’ box. Otherwise an energetic display up and down the right flank. 7
Cristian Romero
Put in a few challenges and marshalled Shakhtar well for much of the game. Managed to pick up a yellow card for one of those late lunges. 7
Ben Davies
Had done well until the final moments of the half when he was beaten by Kelsy, who headed home the visitors’ leveller. Postecoglou sees him as a left-back and it’s clear he’s filling in until Van de Ven is signed and ready to play. 6
Destiny Udogie
A really bright performance with his first 90 minutes in a Spurs shirt with some confident play under pressure and he got into plenty of advanced positions. 8
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
Plenty of good moments in the midfield but it was his boot up the pitch – not how Postecoglou wants it played – which led to Shakhtar getting their break to score. He did make an important interception in the build-up to Kane’s third. 7
Pape Matar Sarr
Postecoglou likes the Senegal international a lot and he started the game with plenty of drive, firing a low shot that the keeper saved. Hojbjerg then teed him up for a turn a volley that was pushed over by the stopper. Really eye-catching display. 8
James Maddison
A constant busy creative presence and it was his quick feet that drew the foul that resulted in Spurs’ penalty towards the end of the half. Carved out another chance for himself soon after with clever play. Grabbed an assist with a deep cross for Kane to head home his second. If he can steer clear of injury there’s going to be real hope that he will be a great addition for Spurs. 8
Dejan Kulusevski
Teed up Kane for a chance early on with a ball through and tested the keeper with a low effort 20 minutes in. Then played a clever nutmeg pass to Kane for the striker’s third goal. Got better and better as the game wore on and was near unplayable in the second half and teed up Scarlett’s late goal. 9
Harry Kane
Forced the keeper into a couple of early saves and then put Son away with a great curling pass. He got the chance to score before the break with a low penalty into the right-hand corner. It brought a massive cheer from the crowd who sang his name before he took and after. He added a second with a header from Maddison’s deep cross before tucking home a tidy finish to complete his hat-trick. He added a fourth on 79 minutes with a tap-in and then went off to the applause of the crowd who had sung for him to stay. 10
Son Heung-min
Bright down the left and linked up well with Udogie. Played the ball into Maddison which brought the penalty. Was involved in everything good Spurs did. 8
Subs
Giovani Lo Celso
Came on with 15 minutes or so to go and added some fresh legs into the midfield. 6
Manor Solomon
A bright little cameo, his run and shot leading to Kane’s fourth. 7
Dane Scarlett
Scored with the final kick of the game, a turn and powerful left-footed finish into the far corner. 8
Oliver Skipp
Replaced Sarr for the final moments of the match. N/A
