Harry Kane continues to be heavily linked with a departure from Tottenham this summer, with Bayern Munich ready to secure his signature for the right price
William Gallas has urged Harry Kane to leave Tottenham despite fears that his exit could rock the boat in north London. The 30-year-old striker faces an increasingly uncertain future at Spurs with his contract set to expire at the end of next season.
In a fiery interview with Gambling Zone, Gallas encouraged Kane to leave after having done everything in his power to finally get his hands on a trophy with Tottenham – although to little success. The former Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs defender said: “Harry Kane should move on from Tottenham – he should have moved last season.
“He has spent his career hoping that he could lift a trophy with Tottenham. Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened. Last season was the best time for him to leave the club. I feel like he couldn’t have done any more for Spurs. He has won the Golden Boot for the club on three different occasions. He does his job perfectly.”
Kane has been heavily linked with an exit from Tottenham for a while now. Last summer he almost joined Manchester City but, after Levy refused to negotiate with Manchester City, Pep Guardiola signed Erling Haaland instead and proceeded to win the treble.
“What I can’t understand is why is he still at Tottenham now if they are going to sell him this summer,” added Gallas. “One week before the season starts and Harry’s future is still being discussed – that is not a good situation for him or the club. I really hope that he does move on this summer because he has recently turned thirty and it’s the right time [to move on].”
Despite an uncertain future, Kane has continued to captain the north Londoners throughout pre-season. Gallas believes that if the Englishman is to suddenly leave a week before the new Premier League campaign kicks-offs then he could scupper Ange Postecoglou’s exciting progress.
“For Tottenham’s preparation for the Premier League, the uncertainty around Kane isn’t helpful,” said the Frenchman. “He has played in most of the club’s pre-season games and played well – it can’t be easy for the new manager to prepare his team for the Premier League if he doesn’t know if Kane will be there.
“Postecoglou doesn’t know what will happen in regard to Kane’s future. At the moment, he will be unsure if he can count on Harry to lead his attack so maybe he is thinking about bringing in another striker. Tottenham have not put themselves in a good position. The season is less than a week away and Postecoglou doesn’t know whether or not his best player will be part of his squad or will be sold.
“If Harry Kane leaves at the end of the transfer window, that will have a massive effect on the morale of the Tottenham squad. All of the players will be upset and that could have a knock-on effect for the rest of the season. This is why Tottenham should have addressed this issue with Kane before their pre-season started.”
