Wesley Fofana has been very unfortunate with injuries in recent years which is a major concern for Chelsea
He didn’t travel to the United States for a pre-season tour with his Chelsea teammates after suffering a knee problem. The results from a scan were devastating for Fofana, who was expected to play a major role for the Blues under Mauricio Pochettino this term.
The France international’s latest setback marks another heartbreaking blow in a short period of time. A couple of days after it was revealed that he would be back on the sidelines, Fofana was overwhelmed on social media and decided to blackout his Instagram profile picture, delete all but one of his posts and change his account status to ‘private’.
A month or so later, Fofana finally reverted his Instagram account to ‘public’ and changed his profile picture. He then broke his silence with a cryptic update on his story, posting a tools and leg emoji in front of a black background.
“Really sad, really bad news – we feel so sad,” said the Chelsea boss. “We can only help him and to be again with the team we know it is tough. We need to help him and wish him all the best. We need to keep going, the competition is there. The competition doesn’t wait for anyone and we need to be ready.”
Then, on if Fofana could feature for the Blues this season, Pochettino added: “I hope yes. You have all of the information that this is difficult. He is evolving in a different way but hopefully his recovery goes very well.”
Fofana has been very unfortunate with injuries in recent years. In 2021, he broke his leg in a pre-season friendly against Villarreal and was he ruled out for over seven months.
Then, in March 2022, the Frenchman eventually returned and played the remainder of the season before sealing an £80million transfer from Leicester City a few months later. In October, Fofana was ruled out for two months before missing a further 55 days after suffering a recurring issue.
